Official Summary: “Matthew is just trying to hold the wreckage of his life together after his girlfriend left him for another woman. A chance to review a West End play seems like a lucky break, until it turns into an X-rated nightmare. The next day London tears itself apart, people make love in the streets and kill each other over a dirty sandwich. Overnight everything changes, the city is very quiet, people smile and nod, but what they smile and nod at is only visible to them. The only other normal person is Jeremy, sarcastic, intelligent and frequently wrong. Together they form an uneasy alliance that lasts until cone shaped aliens land and begin harvesting people like wheat. The last two survivors in London begin a desperate search for a way to stop the aliens before it’s their turn, unaware that millions of people have already killed themselves to give them the perfect weapon. Will Matthew and Jeremy realize the weapon they have been given before its too late?” – Goodreads

Review: This is one of them books that I don’t really know how to take it. I liked it don’t get me wrong, just so many questions/ideas in my head right now. It very intelligently done. The dialogue can be a bit full on, just purely due to the fact that the 2 main characters are pretty smart people. I could still follow the conversions very well, they were just chunky.
A warning, the sexual content is quite full on at the start of the book, later on it calms down and becomes near non-existent. Took me a little off guard, once I realized that the sex wasn’t for the sake of sex, that it had a valid reason within the story, it was fine.
I really like how it shows other people’s stories. Mini-stories within the main story, to show the affected people’s side. Plus gives us a kind of idea what is going through their heads/emotions. Another thing that is well done is the lesbian/gay side of things. It is mentioned but it not a big deal. It just is, which is nice to see. He did go from hating gay people. but that was based more purely on his own emotions/past experience. He learnt that what he was feeling was incorrect. Pretty much he outgrew the childishness of his hate.
The ‘winning’ part just seemed too easy. Too fast. Surely it would have taken weeks for them to win, not every town/city would have someone who immune? I don’t see how else you could have played that part out though. Not sure. Also why were there no cats/dogs/birds/pets mentioned. Only rats, flies and maggots (Eww). Would have added another emotion side to the story. I know I would have been torn if a dog had been mentioned.

Would I recommend it? Yes.
